I wrote this song for Baron Aldemere Mac Rafe while serving as Bardic Champion for the Barony of Black Diamond. Baron Aldemere frequently used the phrase "It's good to be the Baron" while in Court, on the field, while feasting, carrying boxes, visiting the lavatory, setting up pavilions, or doing other things that Barons frequently do. At Seven Hills Skirmishes, my brave Baron decided that I should try on the Baronial Coronet, while under adult supervision. When he placed the Coronet on my head (while still maintaining a firm grip on said Coronet, mind you), the beginnings of this filk popped into my head, along with divers delusions of grandeur! Aldemere quickly removed the Coronet and placed it back on its rightful head. I then told Aldemere of the visions that had flashed before my glazed over eyes while under the influence of the Coronet. To which Baron Aldemere replied... "It's good to be the Baron!" So, I wrote this song. Every now and then, whenever a Black Diamond Baron lowers his guard, this song seems to attack out of nowhere, just when He's least expecting it!
